Haarlem House is an exterior plus interior restoration and renovation of an apartment on the 1st floor in the former mayor’s house in the city center Haarlem. Research shows that around 1560 that this part of the city in Haarlem, alreaddy included the current building.

We were asked to re-design the apartment, whilst keeping the historical layout and details of the existing interior. The concept was to magnify the existing ‘structure’ of the apartment; removing any unnecessary parts. As a result we created a series of grand spaces in harmony to each other. The building is in fact a state-monument, meaning that great care had to be taken in the design-process. It was important to document the existing situation, and maintain a dialogue with the heritage commitee of the municipality.
