ISO is an Amsterdam-based incubator that combines a public program of exhibitions, whilst simultaneously offering studios and workshops to a group of regular users. It is an ever-evolving platform for the (inter)national cultural community.

Spatially, the incubator has a loose configuration of program. Through means of interior streets, (intermediate) squares, stairs, and galleries, a village for art and culture emerges within the former industrial warehouse.

Responding to the character of this community, we add a series of new studio-units that, with restrained detailing and a highly transparent character, create a strongly defined square. On the ground floor we create a set-back, creating an overhang above, essentially adding a new urban-gesture to the incubator-complex.

The square will be paired with a new-built cabaret; a polyvalent space, able to host public workshops, exhibitions, guest artist projects, film and media screenings, lectures, and music events. The cabaret will linked to the new square via a series of large double-doors, allowing for any events inside, to spill-out onto the square, and vice versa.
